Interesting reading! IN A LONELY PLACE, the book, is one of my favorite noirs. But I was upset by the film as they made Steele innocent of the murder and switched the stalker to the woman. My guess is that post-war, they did not want to present a veteran as a serial killer. What do you think?
I love the photo, and agree--vacations are not conducive to writing. But they are great for refueling and keeping a notebook of the location and all the details (for possible future use, of course).
I think Hollywood wasn't ready to tackle a true psychopath, especially if he looked like Bogart, Dorothy was definitely ahead of her time. Give Expendable Man a go.
What a perfect excuse not to write! The only book on your list that I've read is Visit from the Goon Squad which I loved. I'd heard so many people talking about how great it was that I was prepared to be disappointed, and I hope you're enjoying it too, Martine
Gotta check out Hughes, thanks for the rec, Martine. And if that isn't the dictionary picture of "beach vacation" it should be - have a great time!
I recommend Hughes... and that pic is real, I swear!
Got a local 6x7advert postcard in the mail. Took the scissors to it and voila, instant bookmarks.
As you know, I"m a huge Egan fan, and that is one of my fave books. Very interested to hear what you think of it.
Love that bookmark! Do they ship internationally?
I don't know... it's a second hand shop, maybe you can get in touch?

I'm enjoying it, still early in the book...
Darn good excuses! Better drag you back to some wretched place to get those brain cells working again. Hee!
